The Bridge.

I remember growing up I used to be terrified of bridges. Every time we had to drive across one I would close my eyes and my entire body would tense up. I love New Orleans, Louisiana but I hate driving there. I remember the first time I drove to New Orleans…if you’ve ever been then you KNOW those bridges ain’t no joke! Y’all when I tell you I almost had a panic attack driving across those bridges and it was night time so it didn’t help. But, when day time came I could see the beauty in those same bridges that once struck fear within me. The bridges truly give New Orleans a sense of awe. And that is what I feel like God wants all of us to be—bridges. Yes, the job seems terrifying, but if you get past your fear, you too will get the feeling of awe.

Merriam-Webster defines a bridge as, “a structure carrying a pathway or roadway over a depression or obstacle. A time, place, or means of connection or transition.” I find it interesting that the definition says over a depression or obstacle….connection or transition. How many people do you know that are going through an obstacle or difficult time? You may be reading this and going through one yourself. So, how do you get out? How do you overcome? How do you transition?

You need a bridge.

A bridge being someone who can walk with you, pray for you, pray with you, impart wisdom to you, etc. Now if you’re that person that stands firm on being able to do it alone then you’re foolish. Yep, I said it. You were not created to do life alone! You were not created to go through your difficult time alone! But, my words don’t mean anything –here’s the Word:

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. – Genesis 2:18 (NIV)

Two are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. IF one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. – Ecclesiates 4:9-10 (NLT)

And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. – Hebrews 13:16 (NLT)

But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? – 1 John 3:17 (ESV)

Share each other’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. – Galations 6:2 (NLT)

I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. – Matthew 18:19 (NLT)

I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. – Romans 15:30 (NIV)

I can go on, but I figured you got the point by now. Just imagine what you could do in the lives of others if you simply became a bridge for God? There are people in this world dying, struggling financially, being beaten at home, fighting addictions, battling suicidal thoughts and much more. THERE ARE REAL PEOPLE WITH REAL ISSUES NEEDING REAL CONNECTIONS! WHY DON’T YOU STEP UP AND BE THE BRIDGE?!

So, now you say “I have nothing to give.” STOP IT! You were created for a purpose. You were created specifically for a time as this! Stop letting yourself and the devil keep you from being the connection from what was to what is for you and someone else. You were made to be a bridge! You can start off by simply interceding on someone’s behalf in prayer. Prayer is such a strong tool that only those who actually use it know its power.

Don’t know anyone that needs prayer? Well let me share a real life, current story of some people who really need you to get on your knees and fervently pray out to God for them…

I will keep their names anonymous, but this couple is going through true pain and warfare. The husband’s best friend and father passed away from cancer and then his beautiful bride was diagnosed with cancer exactly 4 years from the date the husband’s father passed away. The wife fought hard through the years as the cancer spread throughout her body and knew that God was (and still is) her healer. And guess what? She was cleared of cancer time after time again. Then, a few months ago they were blessed with the most amazing opportunity to lead hundreds and possibly thousands of people to Christ and once they accepted that challenge the enemy came full force. The wife’s cancer (brain tumors) has come back like never before and the doctors are saying the chances are slim. However, we believe that it doesn’t matter what the doctors say, it doesn’t matter what circumstances look like, it doesn’t even matter what we may feel—God’s Word remains true and he is Almighty, All Powerful and the healer of ALL!

Please join me in being a bridge for this family by praying out to our Abba Father.
